"PETSc, pronounced PET-see (the S is silent), is a suite of data structures and routines for the scalable (parallel) solution of scientific applications modeled by partial differential equations. It employs the MPI standard for all message-passing communication. "

Version and availability

PETSc 3.0.0 is available on all LONI Linux clusters, with the only exception being Painter as of now (March 3rd, 2010). It is built with two different MPI implementations, Mvapich 1.1 and Mvapich2 1.4:

To use PETSc, one must first add the softenv key for PETSc to the .soft file, which can be found on the software page or by issuing the softenv command on any clusters where PETSc is installed.

To compile your code with PETSc, one can use a makefile like this one:

include ${PETSC_DIR}/conf/base

myexec: myexec.
       -${CLINKER} -o $@ $? ${PETSC_LIB}
       ${RM} myexec.o

You can find the user manual along with quite a few tutorial at the PETsc website.
