Password Security

Passwords should be changed as soon as they are received for added security. Strong passwords are encouraged; ones that have 8 or more characters, use "special characters" like @, #, %, or &, do not use a word or phrase from a dictionary, and do not use a word that can be obviously tied to the user are less likely to be compromised. Changing the password on a regular basis also helps to maintain security. Computing has changed dramatically over the past few years and there are many simple-to-use programs that can allow an intruder to exploit user accounts.

Changing and Resetting a LONI Password

If a LONI password needs to be changed or reset, one must submit a request here to initiate the process. Please not that the email address must be the one used to apply for the LONI account. Like the account request process, you will receive an email which includes a link to the reset form where the new password can be entered. After you confirm your new password, it will not be in effect until one of the LONI administrators approves it, which may take up to a few hours.

Users may direct questions to sys-help@loni.org.
